Let's hope the GOP can show a little backbone in opposing this expansion of the current scam with Social Security, moving the payout date far enough out that more potential recipients die off before being able to cash in. It's interesting that even the characters in comics understand that the pay-out scheme for Social Security is designed to intentionally deprive certain segments of our society of any possibility of recovering all (or possibly any) of the money they are forced to pay in. If any private investment or insurance company were to market a plan with the same specifications and terms as Social Security, the FTC would shut them down so fast, their heads would spin on the way to prison for the dozens of types of fraud that we routinely accept when they are done by our high and mighty rulers in DC.Posted by Kerry Kerstetter at 4:02 PM

Fewer People To Thank
If nothing else comes out of this debate over reforming Social Security, I hope more people, especially the younger ones, are at least made aware of how phony the personalized savings aspect of the current program is. There are still far too many who believe that the taxes they are paying now are already going into a personally earmarked trust account; when in actuality, it is nothing more than an income redistribution program, with larger amounts of money going from fewer and fewer workers directly to older folks, many of whom are still working. As facetious as it may sound, given the government bureaucracy's classic ineptitude in doing anything efficiently, it would be more cost effective to just have workers "adopt" senior citizens and send them their money directly and eliminate all of the middleman costs.
